The Mohamed controversy
February 7th, 2006 | by Futt | 212 views
So this danish newspaper, among others, printed some caricatures of this arab guy. Then, people start dying. Am I the only one thinking “man, that’s fucked up”? What the hell drives people to those levels of insanity? Well the obvious answer is fundamentalist religion… At any rate - now that fellow norwegians are actually taking bullets (and grenade shrapnell for that matter) over this issue, I thought I’d do my part and publish at least one of the “offensive” drawings here.
So good luck to everyone who’s taking flak over this (litterally or not) - and a big heart felt “fuck you” to all the muslim fundamentalists out there. Have a nice day.
PS: If you have links to more of the caricatures online, please do post them in the comments section!
Update: Thanks to Sago for this link to the complete collection!

Not that they’re pretty, but here they are, all 12 of them.

Some more cartoons are said to have been in the paper, but that’s untrue.
It’s all gone insane, but we need to remember that all we see in the news are the fundementalists. I have lived in a “ghetto” of sorts for 3 years, until I recently moved out. Lots of islamic people, I never had any trouble with those. Too bad that fundementalist Imams represent the entire islamic population.
It’s sad that this situation only serves to produce more racists, and more fundementalists.
The muslims demand that we respect them. How can we respect a religion that inspires to burning down embassies?
So, should Jyllands-Posten have published them? They say they wanted to “test the self-censorship” in Denmark. Some cartoonists said they would never publish a cartoon of Mohammad, for fear of threats of murder etc. JP wanted to test that, so they did.
I’m not sure if they should have, I can’t decide.
However, as Voltaire said… “I may not agree with what you say,
but to your death I will defend your right to say it.”
Freedom of press is essential to any free democracy, regardless of religion.
I agree with you - the fundamentalists are the problem. While I have little respect for Islam as a religion, I am equally disrespectful of all superstition, Christianity included. So I’m an equal opportunities guy!
On a more serious note, I think it was right of JP to publish the caricatures. They may not be great artistic accomplishments, and the reactions from the fundamentalists could probably have been predicted. Never the less, I think they made an excellent point. I think JP may have underestimated the ramifications a bit, but I don’t think you can fault them for that.

but we are not the first world to want impôr to other peoples who to the development level are to many decades of development in relation to the development of our democraticos rights? then where it is our democratic respect for that they see what he is more sacred these peoples to be banalizado as culturalmentte already we make it to some time? e later the exploitation of the polémica on the part of radicals in relation to a people without instruction and objectives. is not excuse for confronts them with our rights of freedom in a so global age. if we understand to that q if it passes then we must respect the globalidade of the cultures therefore is for its to understand that we can enrich more as free men who we are this text can be modified treated and divulged I only want to leave one contributo. of my liberty of speech. I do respect their right to believe whatever they want to, as long as that in no way limits my own freedom - and that’s just what they’re trying to do here. In demanding “respect” for their religion they are trying - through threats and physical attacks - to limit “our” freedom of expression.
And what do they accomplish by this? Am I scared by their terrorist tactics? Do I cower behind my desk in new-found respect for my muslim overlords? No, I am left with even less respect for them, and an even stronger desire to piss them off. I am of the opinion that throwing hand grenades is not really something that belongs in a political/religious debate…
