Weekend of Code

February 10th, 2006 | by Futt | 153 views

Things may get a bit hairy this weekend as I plan on doing some major revamping of the FDO theme, implementing some CMS type features and adding some new stuff to the site. As I am very lazy, I cannot be arsed setting up a test site for this so it’ll probably be done on the live site.

Beware!

    Oooh, live breakage, nice. :D

For ultimate flexibility Textpattern is probably the best to play with, I just haven’t quite gotten my head around it properly yet. Despite using it for my blog for some time. Ho hum.

Textpattern does look nice, but it’s a standalone CMS system, no? It’s not available as a WP plugin or anything? Was thinking about installing and tweaking BaoCMS or something. Seems rather flexible and easy to integrate into WP using only the theme engine.

Textpattern is most definately a standalone system, yes. :) What I like about it is there’s no ‘bloat’ in the code, it’s filesystem is a lot neater than WP, spam isn’t as much of a problem (yet), it’s extendible like WP, and it just feels well, cleaner somehow.

But as I said, I’ve yet to master it. If I knew more about coding I might be better with it. However, if WP were to miraculously disappear off the face of the planet tomorrow, that’s what I’d be using.
