Did I break it?

Under Construction

“Danger” is my middle name! Actually, I don’t have a middle name. But if I had one, I bet it would be “Danger”. I like to live on the edge, I fear nothing! Which is why I decided to upgrade Wordpress today. On the live site, no less. No testing. No backup. From the Subversion repository, currently at version 2.3-alpha… It’s a damn miracle it works at all, so I guess one could say it went well. Still got some issues with some posts appearing twice on the front page, and a couple of plugins barfed, but overall I’d say it was a success. I’ll fix the glitches eventually.

Update: Turns out the double posts were posts with 2 categories assigned to them. Weird, removed a category from the offending front page posts for now, will have to look into why that happens.

    Backups - they’re for wimps, right? :)

Hehe right - well apparently the wordpress guys are in the process of integrating the Widgets plugin into wordpress proper, so RSS widgets are broken. Temporarily disabled.

Have they got the tagging stuff in the svn version yet? I’ve got another project in the works, but really need tagging…if it’s already integrated I might go with that rather than use the UTW plugin.

Yeah tagging is in the SVN version, but the editor is kinda broken at the moment. Plus there’s a bug where all frontpage posts are repeated once for every tag you add - but that could be a theme issue. I wouldn’t recommend using the SVN version, better wait for a beta release or something ;)

The SVN versions are the beta releases these days aren’t they?

I don’t mind messing with this stuff so long as it’s not too badly broken….minor bugs I can handle. It’s not like I have thousands of readers. ;)

But maybe I’ll try it out on a testbed first.

I’d definitely set up a test site yes - the post/page editor is pretty badly broken, looks like it’s being more or less completely rewritten. And as I said, widgets are a bit wonky and will probably only get worse as they seem to be working on that part of WP at the moment.
