They are a great alternative to cloud computing and way more affordable. See what they did for Linked In and the Bumper Sticker application they created for Facebook. It is amazing. It was...different. :D I actually have a pretty good host that suits my needs for now but doesn't allow me to learn much more than I already know. Might give Slicehost a go next month then. First of all, if you screw up you can just log in and press the "rebuild" button from the web interface, and you'll have a clean slate. If you take a look in Slicehost's <a href="http://articles.slicehost.com/" rel="nofollow">Tutorials and Articles</a> section you will also find a number of tutorials on setting up your server, securing it, day to day management, configuring Apache+MySQL+PHP (and a number of other frameworks) etc. What you don't find there, you can probably find in the forums.
